SHE’S FIGHTING FOR AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE FOR ALL
As a nurse and health policy expert, Lauren Underwood made it her mission in Congress to introduce legislation that would ensure working families could afford the quality healthcare they deserved. One of the first bills she introduced fought to ban hollow insurance plans that didn’t cover pre-existing conditions, or other essential benefits like life-saving prescription drugs, and maternity care. She also cosponsored the Health Care Affordability Act, which protected workers who purchased their own insurance, and ensured they paid no more than 8.5% of their income on premiums.

SHE’S DEDICATED TO STRENGTHENING RETIREMENT SECURITY
Lauren Underwood recognizes the importance of keeping the promises made to seniors. She has fought to ensure seniors are supported and receive the benefits they need for retirement security. Lauren advocated to improve Social Security benefits by strengthening the Social Security 2100 Act, effectively increasing benefits for 80% of seniors utilizing this source of income.

SHE’S FIGHTING TO PROTECT OUR COMMUNITIES DURING COVID-19
As COVID-19 swept through Illinois communities, Lauren stood up to protect them. She helped secure free testing to limit the spread of the virus. She also effectively secured more than $1 billion in emergency funding to provide crucial resources to Illinois hospitals and health care providers. As the issues facing her community during COVID-19 continue, she’s made sure she is available to her constituents by providing virtual and outdoor office hours to hear their most pressing concerns and share vital information to keep families protected.
