As communities around Michigan have been reeling from the coronavirus, Gary has supported them. He introduced and passed the Free COVID-19 Testing Act to ensure all Michiganders had access to testing quickly. He also fought to ensure frontline workers received the protection they deserved. Gary has made it his mission to support workers and businesses struggling from the economic effects of the virus as well. He introduced and passed the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance Act to expand unemployment benefits and continues to fight to provide businesses with the financial resources they need to survive.

GARY HAS A PLAN TO EXPAND AFFORDABLE AND QUALITY HEALTH CARE
Gary has a track record of voting for legislation that protects and expands healthcare to all. He supported the Affordable Care Act (ACA) from the beginning and fought attempts to gut protections to millions of Michiganders with pre-existing conditions. Gary has worked to change legislation to lower the costs of employer health plans to support small businesses, and to allow medicare negotiations to keep the cost of life-saving prescription medications affordable. Gary will continue to demand change so that all Michiganders can access quality healthcare without putting their livelihood in jeopardy.

GARY PROTECTED MICHIGAN RETIREES
When thousands of Michigan retirees were at risk of losing their earned pension, Gary jumped into action. He introduced legislation to create the Pension Rehabilitation Administration to ensure pension plans fulfill their obligations, and to hold pension fund executives accountable if retiree benefits were cut.
Gary has stood up for working families in Michigan, making sure their livelihood is at the forefront of legislation passed. He has fought to ensure Michigan families can thrive, not just survive. That’s why the UAW endorses Gary Peters for the U.S. Senate.

GARY EXPANDED JOB SECURITY FOR MICHIGAN’S WORKFORCE
Throughout his career, Gary has understood the needs of Michigan’s workforce. He has advocated for access to workforce training and skilled trades programs because he understands that our State’s economy is built on these opportunities. Gary worked across the aisle to pass legislation that expanded access to apprenticeship programs, trade schools and career-based education programs to Michigan veterans and high school students.

GARY STRENGTHENED UNIONS IN MICHIGAN
Gary co-sponsored a bill with Senator Debbie Stabenow, a companion bill to the U.S. House Bill “Protecting the Right to Organize Act (PRO Act)”, to fight to repeal ‘right to work’ in Michigan. He has continuously fought to strengthen protections for organizing workers – ensuring safer working environments, higher wages and better benefits.

GARY CHAMPIONED EQUAL PAY FOR EQUAL WORK
Gary led efforts to ensure all workers, regardless of gender, received equal pay for their work. He co-sponsored the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, and continues to combat pay disrimination. He also passed bi-partisan legislation to build opportunities for women in the workforce, advancing opportunities for women in STEM fields.
