As a member of the Senate Banking Committee, Doug championed reforms that reduced unnecessary regulations, allowing businesses to access the capital they needed to grow. These reforms expanded vital industries in Alabama, protecting the rights and livelihood of workers.

DOUG FOUGHT FOR HEALTH CARE SECURITY FOR THE MOST VULNERABLE
When the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) was gutted in 2017, Doug sprung into action. His first co-sponsored bill as a member of the U.S. Senate brought the CHIP program back, protecting it for 10 years. He also served as a member of the Senate Special Committee on Aging, and has advocated to protect medicare for seniors.

DOUG ADVOCATED FOR RETIREE PROTECTIONS
Doug saw that key federal funding for seniors was in jeopardy of running out in 13 years if changes weren’t made. He worked across the aisle to introduce legislation built to protect pensions, social security and medicare on a federal level, to ensure retirees weren’t left without access to necessary services.

In his home state of Alabama, Doug has seen firsthand how failing infrastructure has negatively impacted the safety of drinking water and transportation in communities.
