MICHELLE

DE LA ISLA

FOR U.S. CONGRESS

Michelle De La Isla has resided in Kansas for over a decade. As a former teacher, the Mayor of Topeka, a mom and lifelong public servant, she has the work ethic and tenacity it takes to make effective change in Washington. She shares our values, and isn’t afraid to stand up for hardworking UAW families.

WHY VOTE DE LA ISLA FOR CONGRESS?

ONE

SHE’S DEDICATED TO EXPANDING ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE

Michelle has seen firsthand the crippling effects unaffordable health care can have on a family. She’s dedicated to expanding access to affordable health care, ensuring that no matter the circumstance, every Kansan has the ability to choose quality coverage. She’ll fight to expand Medicaid so that the over 150,000 Kansans who are currently uninsured aren’t left vulnerable to a medical emergency or unexpected illness.

TWO

SHE’S FIGHTING TO STRENGTHEN PUBLIC EDUCATION

Michelle De La Isla credits her education for saving her life and is a loud advocate and leader for strengthening our public schools. To ensure children in Kansas can learn and thrive no matter their zip code, Michelle has a plan to build strong education opportunities. She will invest in early childhood education, so that children can get ahead and families can work without worry. She will invest in Kansas teachers, to ensure that they are paid fairly and have the resources they need to teach our kids. She will fight for expanded educational opportunities, so that all students have a chance to learn skills that lead them to quality work opportunities.

THREE

SHE’S SUPPORTING HER COMMUNITY DURING COVID-19

As the Mayor of Topeka, Michelle has fought for her community during the COVID-19 crisis. She worked with the Governor of Kansas to proactively enforce a stay-at-home order, so that her community was prepared for the virus. She implemented resources, like the “warm line”, addressing members of her community who were struggling with their mental health. She also ensured the correct information and resources, like personal protective equipment, school lunches, and portable hotspots for students, were being quickly distributed to her community.

Michelle De La Isla has dedicated her career in public service to fighting for working families. She isn’t afraid to stand up for residents of the 2nd District. That’s why the UAW endorses Michelle De La Isla for Congress.
