SHE’S PROTECTING MEDICARE AND SOCIAL SECURITY
Cheri understands that many Illinois seniors rely on the Medicare and Social Security benefits promised to them. She has fought to protect and enhance these benefits, so that seniors can retire with dignity. Cheri helped pass the Lower Drug Costs Now Act, expanding Medicare coverage and giving Medicare the ability to negotiate prescription drug prices. She also fought against the privatization of Social Security, effectively stopping politicians from gambling with the welfare of seniors.

SHE’S TACKLING COVID-19 HEAD ON
As COVID-19 has severely impacted her community, Cheri has fought to provide them the resources they need. She helped pass the Coronavirus Funding Package, ensuring funding was allocated to individuals, non-profits, schools, and businesses who needed it most. She also sponsored the Social Determinants Health Accelerator Act. This bill recognized the socio-economic factors that have led to disproportionately negative health outcomes in rural areas and communities of color during the pandemic, effectively allocating additional long-term resources to those communities.

SHE’S FIGHTING FOR HEALTH CARE REFORM
Cheri has fought to ensure that all Illinois residents have access to a doctor and the prescription drugs they need, regardless of their income. She has experienced firsthand the detrimental impacts unaffordable health care can have on a family. She is dedicated to bringing down the price of premiums and prescription drugs. She’s cosponsored numerous bills that increase drug pricing transparency. She will continue to fight to ensure that Illinois families aren’t an illness or medical emergency away from poverty.
