When weak areas of Montana’s health care coverage options were discovered, Steve passed a package of health bills into law that would support all Montanans. This ensured access to vital mental health treatment, supported the healthcare of tribal communities, lowered insurance premiums by 9% and lowered the cost of life-saving prescriptions.

STEVE EXPANDED MEDICAID COVERAGE
Steve reauthorized a medicaid expansion as governor that preserved health care for 1 in 10 Montanans, ensuring working families and rural communities could access the physical and mental health care they needed. This expansion also secured thousands of jobs and boosted the state’s economy.

STEVE FUNDED JOB TRAINING PROGRAMS
Steve has advocated for apprenticeship and job training programs throughout his entire career. He worked with the Montana Legislature to create a tax incentive for businesses offering on-the-job training to Montanans and Veterans, increasing jobs and training workers for high-demand fields.

STEVE INVESTED IN PUBLIC EDUCATION
Montana made record investments in education under Steve’s direction as Governor. An increase of over $175 million a year was invested in public schools and record investments were made in higher education. He will fight for funding increases to public education on a federal level.

STEVE CHAMPIONED RAISING MONTANA’S MINIMUM WAGE
As a small business, consumer protection and labor lawyer Steve led the fight in Montana to raise the minimum wage and ensure that the rate was adjusted each year for inflation. As Governor he succeeded in increasing the minimum wage, increasing the hourly rate for over 1.8% of workers in Montana.

STEVE INVESTED IN VITAL INFRASTRUCTURE RESTORATION
Steve understands that maintaining infrastructure in Montana is vital for public health, creating and maintaining jobs, and economic growth. As Governor he passed an infrastructure package that created funding to fix roads, bridges, buildings, water and sewage infrastructure.
